The Los Nietos School District would like to congratulate all of the students and staff who ran in the 2018 Los Angeles Marathon on March 18, 2018. Jake Lopez was the first Los Nietos Middle School student to complete the race, but was soon followed by twenty other Los Nietos students. Special thanks to staff coaches Erika Rose, Christina Fontenot, Michelle Sanchez, Gabe Jauregui and staff volunteers Principal Brann Zelaya, Amy Estrada, William Chavez, Marion Lam, and Noee Zelaya who ran with the students each week getting them ready for the marathon. Superintendent Vasquez and Los Nietos Board Member Evelyn Avdalyan cheered the Los Nietos representatives as they finished the race in Santa Monica. Students in the Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA) club began training for their participation in the marathon last year running each week building up their endurance competing in progressively longer races until they were prepared to race in the 26.2 mile L.A. Marathon.
