Los Nietos School District participates in Read Across America!

March 2nd - Read Across America is an annual reading motivation awareness program that started on March 2, 1998, and calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading! Sponsored by the National Education Association (NEA), Read Across America is celebrated on March 2nd in celebration of the beloved children’s author, Dr. Seuss. This year, all of our elementary schools participated in the celebration!

Rancho Santa Gertrudes Elementary School hosted its annual Green Eggs and Ham breakfast for students, parents, and family members. Parents and students started the school day early and enjoyed some green eggs and ham prepared and distributed by volunteers and School Board Vice President Evelyn Avdalyan. Students also enjoyed a special appearance by The Cat in the Hat, who helped students celebrate the joy of reading by encouraging them to have conversations about their favorite books.

Ada S. Nelson Elementary celebrated by having community members, parents, and family members in each classroom. A special guest, School Board Member Catherine Martinez, also participated in the festivities by reading to students in their classrooms. TK and Kinder students also participated by watching Dr. Seuss movies, taking wacky pictures in a photo booth, and playing games in the cafeteria.

Lastly, Aeolian Elementary celebrated with festivities throughout the day. The morning started with a huge assembly where students sang Dr. Seuss songs with their teachers, followed by guest readers visiting each classroom. Parents were also invited to participate in the festivities by stopping by to enjoy lunch with their students. As parents and students enjoyed their food, Thing 1 and Thing 2 made their way around the classrooms to take pictures and play with the students.

Overall, motivating children to read is very important to everyone at Los Nietos School District. We hope that by motivating our students to read, we play an integral part in their achievement and lifelong success.
