Los Nietos School District Hosts Annual "Feed the Families" Event on December 17, 2016

On December 16, 2016 the Los Nietos School District hosted their annual “Feed the Families” food basket give-away. The event has been going on for more than 10 years as the District has partnered with the South East Los Angeles Consortium (SELAC) to provide food baskets for some of the most needy families in the Los Nietos community. Los Nietos School Board President Nick Aquino and former Trustee Art Escobedo founded SELAC as a way to provide additional support to the Los Nietos community. Since that time over a decade ago, the Los Nietos School District and staff have worked collaboratively to provide support to families in need during the holiday season.

This year was made especially blessed by the inclusion of numerous community partners, as well as District and school staff (and their families) that helped make the annual event truly bountiful and collaborative. The Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Vasquez would like to thank the following community partners for their donations of toys, food, and volunteer hours:

-SELAC for canned food, produce, and chicken for 100 families.
-Aeolian School staff members, PTC members and Student Council for raising over $3,000.00 for toys, canned food, rice, and beans.
-Nelson School parents, students, and staff for their donations of canned food.
-Rancho School parents, students, and staff for their donations of canned food.
-Los Nietos Middle School parents, students, and staff for their donations of canned food.
-Matt and Mark Blackburn from United Waste Systems (UWS) for donating grocery bags.
-CSEA Chapter 380 for a cash donation.
-Whittier Boy Scout Troop 438 for donating large amounts of toys.
-The Pioneer High School Football Team for sorting, bagging, and delivering of food.
-Shannon Steward Ministries for a significant food donation.
-Whistler Construction and Jarrett and Christina Fontenot for food donations.
-The Jorge Guia Family.
-Maria-Elena Romero for food gift card donations.
-Edgar Paz for food gift card donations.
-Leobardo Acevedo from Nina’s Mexican Food Products for the donation of tortillas.

The 2016 “Feed the Families” event was an outstanding success thanks to the countless volunteers and community partners dedicating their time and efforts to providing a special holiday season to the families of the Los Nietos School District. Superintendent Vasquez and the Los Nietos Board of Trustees would like to wish everyone in the Los Nietos community a safe and joyous holiday season with the their families and hopes to see everyone rested and invigorated in 2017!
