During the week of October 24, 2016 Los Nietos School District schools participated in events at their sites designed to bring awareness to a drug-free lifestyle as part of national “Red Ribbon Week”. Students in Los Nietos decorated their schools with “Say No to Drugs” messaging as well as participated in events designed to reinforce the positive effect of leading a healthy and drug free life.
On October 20th, Superintendent Vasquez was invited to the Santa Fe Springs City Council Meeting to receive a city proclamation recognizing October 23-31st as “Red Ribbon Week”. Superintendent Vasquez was pleased to be able to get his picture taken with “McGruff the Crime Dog” who was on hand at the city council meeting posing with members of the community.
Each year the city of Santa Fe Springs sponsors their annual “Red Ribbon Day” parade, and this year it was held on October 26, 2016. Superintendent Vasquez, 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year Desiree Chavez, and students from Rancho Santa Gertrudes were invited to be a part of the parade procession. The Los Nietos School District would like to thank the City of Santa Fe Springs for sponsoring the parade and partnering with the Los Nietos School District to reinforce the importance of living a healthy and drug-free life.
