Los Nietos S.T.E.A.M. Academy Staff Host "Back to School Night" on August 27, 2015

On August 27, 2015 Los Nietos Middle School parents were welcomed to “Back to School Night” by the staff of the new Los Nietos Middle School Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) Academy. Principal, Shannon Brann Zelaya, explained to parents the new curricular focus of the S.T.E.A.M. Academy and the new programs offered this year to students. The Los Nietos Middle School S.T.E.A.M Academy was made possible through the successful passage of Bond Measure N in November of 2014. Prior to Principal Brann Zelaya introducing the outstanding staff of the Los Nietos Middle School, parents had the opportunity to visit several informational booths that described activities for students to participate in this year. One booth that was visited extensively by parents was the Rio Hondo City College booth, which provided information for parents about ways to help students prepare for entrance into college.

After introductions and announcements by Principal Brann Zelaya, parents had the opportunity to visit their children’s classrooms and meet their teachers. Teachers explained how the content of their classes aligned with the California State Standards. Also visiting classrooms were Superintendent Vasquez, Director of Curriculum Cardenas, Assistant Superintendent of Business McMasters, and Board President Nick Aquino. President Aquino thanked parents for their support of Los Nietos Schools and explained to them the exciting plans for the new Los Angeles County Library that will be built on the campus of the Los Nietos Middle School field as well as they extra-curricular activities that 7th and 8th grade students had the opportunity to participate in this year.

The Los Nietos Middle School S.T.E.A.M. Academy staff is to be commended for providing such an inviting and informational program for both the students and their parents.
