Los Nietos Administrators Recognize Consuelo Aleman as WASA Volunteer of the Year on February 6, 2015

On February 6, 2015 the Whittier Area School Administrators held their annual Community Service Awards Breakfast to honor local heroes making a difference in the lives of children. The Los Nietos School District administrative team was pleased to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Mrs. Consuelo Aleman, an Aeolian School parent volunteer for the past nine years. Prior to Mrs. Aleman accepting her award, Superintendent Vasquez gave a brief overview of Mrs. Aleman’s many years of community service at Aeolian School. Below is the text of Superintendent Vasquez’s comments about Mrs. Aleman:

The Los Nietos School District is fortunate to have many caring parents who volunteer their time in our schools. This year we’d like to recognize the efforts of Consuelo Aleman, who Aeolian Principal Becky Speh calls “a magnificent person inside and out”. She is the mother of Valerie, an 8th grader at Los Nietos Middle School, and Samantha, a 6th grader at Aeolian Elementary School. For the past 9 years she has played an integral part in Aeolian’s Parent Teacher Club. Principal Speh describes her efforts by saying, “She has attended just about EVERY meeting, helps to set-up at EVERY event, and she and her husband graciously donate their time, catering equipment, and food to serve delicious meals at our events in order to fund raise and build community”. You will see her working at Movie Nights, the Book Fair, Santa’s Workshop, our annual Carnival, and any other event we hold. Aeolian’s PTC has been able to raise over $25,000 in the past two years and she has played a vital role in making that happen. Through all of her work within the Los Nietos School District she always has a smile on her face and will help out wherever and whenever she can.

Mrs. Aleman has attended many parent trainings offered by our school district and is part of the “PROedu” group that focuses on empowering parents, encouraging them to partner with their child’s school, and have a college-bound focus for their children. Her achievements are all the more remarkable considering she is primarily a Spanish speaker. She doesn’t let that get in her way as she works hard to partner with all of Aeolian’s parents and invites them to join the PTC and help in any way they can. The Los Nietos School District is pleased to recognize Mrs. Consuelo Aleman this morning as this year’s recipient of the WASA Community Service Award.
