Los Nietos Educators Participate in District-wide Educational Forum on January 13, 2015

The District-wide Educational Forum was planned for educators to come together to share best planning and collaboration practices for developing Common Core units in English Language Arts and Mathematics. This was the mid-point of the school year for teachers and reflection, refinement, and ongoing learning from colleagues was essential as teams focus on completing common Curriculum Maps.

Each Tuesday, grade level teams meet across the District's schools to discuss Common Core State Standards, and to align curriculum, instruction, and assessments to the Standards. Having all teachers create the curriculum is key in having a common, teacher-centric curriculum based on the Standards. Our teachers have the talent, know how, and instructional expertise to ensure that learning experiences are rigorous, relevant and reflect the 4 Cs of Common Core (Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Communication).

Director Cardenas thanked grade level teams for sharing their reflections on unit design, expressing challenges, and for their willingness to share resources and strategies with other grade level teams related to Common Core implementation.
