On November 4, 2014, 76% of the Los Nietos Community voted to approve Bond Measures E and N (55% was required for passage), which will provide $28 million dollars to provide facility and technology upgrades to all four schools in the Los Nietos School District. Measure E authorizes the selling of $15 million dollars in General Obligation (G.O.) bonds to help improve Ada S. Nelson, Aeolian, and Rancho Santa Gertrudes schools by repairing/updating aging classrooms; keeping schools safe and clean; providing up-to-date learning technology for 21st century education; repairing leaky roofs/windows; removing hazardous materials; and renovating, constructing, and equipping classrooms/facilities/sites.
Measure N authorizes the selling of $13 million dollars in G.O. Bonds to repair and improve Los Nietos Middle School by updating aging middle school classrooms/labs with 21st century learning technology; providing educational resources to prepare students to successfully transition to high school and college; improving facilities for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math programs; and renovating, constructing, and equipping classrooms/facilities/sites.
The approval of measures E and N will enable the Los Nietos School District to continue the facility upgrades that were begun under Measure M in 2008, which allowed for the renovation of the external facilities and perimeter fencing at all four school sites.
Although $31 million dollars was approved under Measure M, only $15 million dollars has been accessed due to lower than expected assessed valuation growth rates. It is projected that the Los Nietos School District will not be able to access the remaining $15 million dollars left on the Measure M Bond until 2031.
The first half of the Measure M Bond was able to pay for exterior facility upgrades at all four schools (all are over 50 years old) which included perimeter fencing (adding a single-point of entry for each school), replacing and upgrading underground utilities (gas lines, water lines, sewer lines, storm drainage systems, electrical lines), perimeter lighting, fire alarm upgrades, and new pavement and parking.
Additionally Rancho Santa Gertrudes had the roofing replaced on all of its buildings, the Los Nietos Middle School had the HVAC system replaced in the administration/classroom building, Aeolian School had library upgrades, and Ada S. Nelson School had classroom wiring upgraded in all of its classrooms.
Superintendent Vasquez and the Los Nietos School Board of Trustees want to thank the Los Nietos Community for their support and willingness to continue their investment in the school district and children of the Los Nietos School District.
