On May 10, 2014, the Los Nietos School District in conjunction with the City of Santa Fe Springs and PIH Health sponsored a community Health Fair at Rancho Santa Gertrudes School. Over 25 agencies participated from across Los Angeles County to provide health related materials and information to the residents of Santa Fe Springs, Los Nietos, and Whittier. Los Nietos Superintendent, Jonathan Vasquez, Rancho Santa Gertrudes Principal, Octavio Perez, and Ed Ramirez, Santa Fe Springs Community Services Supervisor, welcomed guests, vendors, 3 SFS City Council members and four Los Nietos School Board members.
The Healthy Los Nietos program was represented at several booths, as the “Los Nietos Promotoras de Salud” parents who were trained in health education conducted health demonstrations with the community members in attendance.
Children had access to a free rock-climbing wall and bounce houses, while adults enjoyed the sounds of a mariachi band and participated in Zumba dance lessons. The event was a positive and successful collaborative event, and discussions about making the Health Fair a yearly event are currently underway
