Los NIetos Middle School Students and Staff Participate in LA Marathon on March 9, 2014

On March 9, 2014, the Los Nietos Middle School Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA) Team boarded a bus at 5:00 a.m. and traveled to participate in the Asics Los Angeles Marathon. Parents cheered the students and staff advisors as they left the Los Nietos Middle School campus and boarded their bus to participate in an event they have trained for all year. At the start of the 2013-2014 school year, SRLA students made a commitment to run three times per week with each run being between three and ten miles long. Los Nietos Middle School is the only school east of the 605 Freeway to offer this outstanding SRLA marathon-training program. Thousands of students from the Los Angeles area participate in SRLA which promotes physical fitness, discipline, and goal setting.

The Los Nietos School Board is extremely thankful to the Los Nietos staff that devoted so much of their time and energy to the Los Nietos students this year. In addition, special thanks is given to the committed coaches, Linda Cojohn, William Chavez, Gabriel Jauregui, Marion Lam, and Carlee Ann Moyer, as well as Principal Shannon Brann-Zelaya for her support of the SRLA program. Congratulations are also given to Los Nietos Middle School 8th grade mathematics teacher, Michelle Sanchez, for running in the LA Marathon as well.

The SRLA students, parents, and coaches will be invited to an upcoming Los Nietos School District Board meeting to be acknowledged for their hard work and tremendous accomplishment.
