Los Nietos School District Administrators Honor Mrs. Janet Wong for her Community Service on 2/27/14

On February 27, 2014 the Whittier Area School Administrators held their annual Community Service Awards Breakfast to honor local heroes making a difference in the lives of children. The Los Nietos School District administrative team was pleased to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Mrs. Janet Wong, a Rancho Santa Gertrudes School parent volunteer for the past 30 years. Prior to Mrs. Wong accepting her award, Director of Instructional Services, Jacqueline Cardenas, gave a brief overview of Mrs. Wong’s many years of community service at Rancho Santa Gertrudes School.

Originally a native of Hong Kong, China, Mrs. Wong has enriched the Rancho school community by sharing her rich Chinese culture with the staff and students, introducing them to the food, customs, and celebrations like Chinese New Year. Her parental involvement at Rancho began when her son was a student in the 1980’s, and currently extends in support of her grandson’s education. Her support has enabled teachers to focus on the students’ engagement and success. On a daily basis she can be found making copies, preparing projects, and laminating, cutting, and assisting with fundraising activities. As the Parent Teacher Club President, she prioritized and achieved the purchase of an iPad for each classroom to increase access to technology. This year she made a considerable personal donation to help fund a school mural that was conceptualized by the school’s Art Club, and completed by a professional muralist.

The Los Nietos School District gladly recognizes Mrs. Janet Wong as the 2014 WASA Community Service recipient.
