On December 13, 2013, the Los Nietos School District and the South East Los Angeles County (SELAC) Education Foundation successfully completed another year of the annual "Feed the Families" program. Over 130 Los Nietos families were invited to the Los Nietos School District office to receive a bag of donated items, including canned groceries, produce, and a frozen chicken. As has been customary the past few years district office staff collected the food that was donated by the four Los Nietos Schools and bagged the canned food in preparation for the December 13th distribution.
The Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees, district staff and their families, and community volunteers worked collectively to distribute canned food, produce, and bread products to the identified families in the district. Some families were unable to attend the event, so district staff drove to their homes to deliver the bags of food to very grateful Los Nietos families. Additionally, toys were distributed to the families to insure that students would have some additional gifts during the holiday season. At the end of the 3-hour food distribution, the remainder of the food was donated to a local church.
Needles Unified School District Superintendent, Dr. Mary McNeil, attended the event and helped as she had the past four years when she was the Los Nietos Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
All Los Nietos School District staff and community volunteers were glad to donate their time and energy to benefit the families in the Los Nietos School District. The Los Nietos School District and the SELAC Foundation would like to wish all staff, students, and families in the Los Nietos Community a joyful Christmas and safe winter break.
