On October 25, 2013, Los Nietos School District alumnus and author, William C. Gordon, visited his former school and spoke with Mathematics Engineering Science and Achievement (MESA) students about his life and travels around the world. Mr. Gordon is in the Whittier area this weekend to be a co-speaker along with his wife, author Isabel Allende, at a Whittier High School and Whittier College fundraising event on Saturday, October 26, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. The program entitled, “Isabel Allende and William C. Gordon in Conversation,“ will allow audience members access into the personal and professional histories of two world-renowned authors and philanthropists.
Introduced by Principal Brann Zelaya and Superintendent Vasquez, Mr. Gordon explained to the students how he attended, in the 1950’s, what was once called the “Los Nietos School", and is now called the Los Nietos Middle School. Mr. Gordon spoke of growing up as a child and finding refuge in the local library where he taught himself how to read, think, and dream. It was his personal connection and recollection of libraries that made him want to donate his own money to benefit the children who currently attend his old alma mater at the Los Nietos School. Mr. Gordon partnered with former alumnus, Carlos Rodriguez, to fund a 40–IPAD cart for the Los Nietos Middle School students.

Although he was in town for the Whittier High School and Whittier College event, Mr. Gordon wanted to visit the Los Nietos School that even after so many years holds very dear and fond memories for him. Accompanying him on his visit was his photographer and biographer, Laura Muñoz, who is from Spain.
Superintendent Vasquez presented Mr. Gordon with a personalized Los Nietos Alumni shirt with his name (Mr. Gordon) embroidered on it, as well as presenting Ms. Muñoz with a personalized (Laura Muñoz) Los Nietos Middle School shirt to commemorate their visit. With great appreciation the Los Nietos School District would like to thank Mr. William C. Gordon for his monetary contribution that helped create the 40-IPAD cart for all middle school students to utilize.
