Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees Congratulate 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year and Welcomes New Los Nietos Middle School Principal on September 11, 2013

On September 11, 2013, the Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees recognized the 2013-2014 Los Nietos School District Teacher of the Year, Monica Quiroz. Principal Perez introduced Mrs. Quiroz speaking of her leadership in and out of the classroom at Rancho Santa Getrudes School. Mrs. Quiroz humbly expressed her appreciation as she accepted her plaque, and introduced and thanked her family for their many years of support.

Additionally, the Board approved Shanonn Brann Zelaya as the new Los Nietos Middle School Principal. Mrs. Brann Zelaya brings with her twelve years of middle school experience, the last five as a middle school administrator. Her experiences as a literacy coach, technology coach, and lead site level administrator for development and delivery of professional learning around the Common Core for middle school staff will prove invaluable to her new school and district.

Members of the Los Nietos School District More Advocates for Safe Homes (M.A.S.H.) organization were also in attendance to discuss their concerns about the proposed expansion of the existing Universal Waste Systems, Inc. facility located within the Los Nietos Community into a Material Recovery Facility and Transfer Station (M.R.F.). The Los Nietos School Board after hearing community concerns, and expressing their own concerns about the proposed MRF expansion, passed a resolution that expressed their inability to support the proposed expansion.
