Los Nietos Schools Hold Amazing CST Pep Rallies on May 3, 2013

On May 3, 2013, all four schools in the Los Nietos School District held raucous pep rallies for their students in preparation for two arduous weeks of CST exams. The principals at Ada S. Nelson, Aeolian, Rancho Santa Gertrudes, and Los Nietos Middle School enthusiastically spoke to their students encouraging them to get a good night’s sleep, eat a good breakfast, maintain positive behavior, and to do their very best during the two weeks of State testing.

Students at Rancho Santa Gertrudes School watched teachers compete in tricycle races and cheered loudly as Principal Octavio Perez encouraged the students to do their very best on the CST exams.

At Ada S. Nelson Principal Marla Duncan and the Nelson staff dressed in Khaki shirts that said, “ Go Tigers Score High”, as they encouraged their students to take no prisoners on the CST exams. With the theme from the movie Rocky playing in the background, the staff ran to the front of the assembly as the students cheered them on as they took an amazing staff picture. Kindergarten and first grade classrooms showed their support by making encouraging posters for all second through sixth grade classrooms extolling them to do their best on the test!

At Aeolian School, Principal Becky Speh led her school through a rousing and energetic pep rally that capped a phenomenal week of school spirit activities (Crazy Socks Day, Crazy Hair Day, Twin Day, College Day, and Dress Like a Rockstar Day). Leading off the pep rally activities was fifth grade student, Kimberly Garcia, who is one of the top 50 contestants on the singing show La Voz Kids on Telemundo. She sang "Rolling in the Deep" by Adele. Next, the Aztec cheerleaders performed to the song "We Will Rock You!" Then four teachers participated in a game show called "Are You Smarter than an Aztec?" Lastly, the school finished by singing new lyrics to the music of "Dynamite"...and dancing to the Harlem Shake!!

At the Los Nietos Middle School Principal Jacqueline Cardenas thanked the LNMS Band as they performed a song called “Hey Song” for the students in attendance. Student performers (singers, cup stackers) entertained the students and staff, Principal Cardenas also thanked students, teachers, and support staff for their collective effort this year to prepare to meet high AYP and API growth targets. She shared that the results on the STAR will serve as a "report card" for the school to demonstrate to the community that LNMS is making consistent academic growth. "Last year LNMS achieved 23-points growth in API and this year our goal is achieve status in the 800 Club by moving up from 797 to 815. We can do it, Braves!" she proclaimed in encouragement.

The Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees and Superintendent Vasquez want to thank all of the staff, students, and parents for participating in the May 3, 2013, CST Pep Rallies. With such excitement, encouragement, and preparation given to the students by our wonderful teachers and staff this year, Los Nietos is anticipating the 2013 CST results to be outstanding this year!
