On April 27, 2013, Ada S. Nelson competed in the Los Angeles County Office of Education’s “Math Field Day” competition. The County Office of Education sponsor’s the event which is designed as an enrichment activity to promote mathematical reasoning, teamwork and a balanced mathematics curriculum for all students in upper elementary and middle school.
Participation in the event allows students to demonstrate their math knowledge through competition in the following elements: computational and procedural skill, conceptual understanding and problem solving
Nelson’s four person team consisting of fourth grade students: Xico Reyes, Athena Soto, Brianna Ramirez, and Vanity Franco had a stellar day as they represented their school and district with distinction! The students won two silver medals (Problem Solving and Conceptual Understanding) and one gold medal (Computational/Procedural Skills).
Principal Marla Duncan and team coaches Andrea Etherton and Jazon Buzzard enthusiastically cheered their students all day and were beaming with pride as their students were awarded their medals for academic achievement.
The Los Nietos School District community congratulates the students, coaches, principal and parents for their outstanding work.
