On September 5, 2012, Superintendent Vasquez and the Los Nietos School Board of Trustees welcomed the Los Nietos Staff back and wished them well as they embarked on the new 2012-2013 school year. The Los Nietos School Board has a tradition of inviting the staff to a “Welcome Back Breakfast” and thanking them publicly for the outstanding job each of them do to insure that Los Nietos students receive a quality education.
On each table as centerpieces were little trains that represented, the book the “Little Engine that could”. At last year’s “Welcome Back Breakfast” LA County Board of Supervisor, Don Knabe, utilized the “The Little Engine that Could” story to represent the Los Nietos School District’s remarkable accomplishments despite its size. This was never more apparent than when Superintendent Vasquez announced with pride to the staff that the District’s projected 2012 API was calculated at 795.
Superintendent Vasquez along with trustees Art Escobedo, Marisa B. Hernandez, Nick Aquino, and Silvia Monge also gave thanks to the sponsors of the event. Maria-Elena Romero and Edgar Paz were given awards of appreciation not only for their outstanding work managing the facilities projects in the district but for their continual sponsorship of district events
Superintendent Vasquez introduced Diana Mireles, 2012-2013 Los Nietos Teacher of the Year, as she addressed the room on the importance of being a teacher. Her speech extolled the virtues of always encouraging children to do their very best and to help them find the strength to believe in themselves. Her heartfelt speech touched the audience deeply as she praised every employee in the room for helping to provide a quality education for the students in the Los Nietos School District.
As is the custom of the Welcome Back Breakfast, Superintendent Vasquez along with the Board of Trustees awarded years of services pins to the employees.
Additionally Superintendent Vasquez acknowledged and thanked the Los Nietos schools and awarded their principals and staffs awards of appreciation on behalf of a very grateful Los Nietos School Board.
Lastly, individual certificates were presented to the Aeolian and Los Nietos Middle School Teachers for their outstanding 2012 CST achievements.
