Los Nietos Board of Trustees Recognize 2011-2012 Los Nietos Middle School MESA Team on 4-19-12

On April 19, 2012, the Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees recognized the Los Nietos Middle School 2011-2012 Mathematics Engineering Science Academy (MESA) team and acknowledged their accomplishments. Staff Advisor, Jacqueline Ramirez, gave a brief PowerPoint presentation of the MESA program and the competitions that the MESA students competed in this year.
On March 26, 2011, Los Nietos Middle School had 35 Mathematics Engineering Science Academy (MESA) students participate at MESA day preliminaries at Chapman University. The 35 MESA students built team projects during their MESA classes and competed their projects against other LNMS teams.

The winners of the classroom competitions rebuilt their projects to compete at the MESA Day preliminaries. They competed against students from various middle schools in Orange County. The teams competed in mousetrap cars, manilla bridges, craftstick bridges, eye models, egg drop, windmill, and mathematics concepts. LNMS had teams that placed first and third for manilla bridges, second and third for windmills, and third in the math competition. These students received medals for their success. Some teams were awarded ribbons for placing first and second in manilla bridge design and third for mousetrap design.

The twelve medal winners will compete at the regional competition later this month.

The Los Nietos School Board of Trustees congratulated MESA Teachers/Advisors Mrs. Jacqueline Ramirez and Mrs. Michelle Sanchez for their outstanding dedication to the MESA students and program. MESA students were given certificates of achievement to acknowledge their accomplishments, and were invited along with their parents to take pictures with Superintendent Vasquez and the Board of Trustees. The Los Nietos School District is very proud of the 2011-2012 MESA Team, and the teachers who so generously give their time to make this program a success.
