On April 19, 2012, the Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees recognized the stellar contributions of the 2011-2012 Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA) team. The SRLA Team under the supervision of staff/parent mentors (Linda Cojohn, William Chavez, Chammy Chan, and Mr. Barcelo) worked all year to build their running endurance by participating in afterschool runs, 5K runs, 10K runs, and finally the 26.2 mile L.A. Marathon on March 18, 2012.
After Mrs. Cojohn and Mr. Chavez showed a video of the 2011-2012 SRLA Team accomplishments, student speakers were invited to speak to the Board about what the SRLA experience had been like for them and how it changed their lives.
When the students were done addressing the Board, they were given certificates of achievement and invited along with their parents to take pictures with the Board. The Los Nietos School Board and Superintendent Vasquez congratulated the 19 students who completed the 26.2 L.A. Marathon, as well as their parents on their tremendous accomplishment.
