Former Superintendent Glenn Lawson Visits the Los Nietos School District on 4/17/12

On April 17, 2012, former Los Nietos School District Superintendent, Glenn Lawson, visited with Superintendent Vasquez as he was on vacation from his home in Missouri. Mr. Lawson was accompanied by his wife Raquel “Rocky” , who was herself a former long-time Los Nietos employee (secretary).

Mr. Lawson began his career in Los Nietos in 1956 when he was hired as an eighth grade teacher at the Los Nietos School. He also served as Ada S. Nelson Vice-Principal, Principal of Wiggins School, and was Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. From 1976-1981 Mr. Lawson served as the Los Nietos School District Superintendent and many years during that period continued to oversee the Business Services Department in the District.

Mr. Lawson shared with Superintendent Vasquez stories of Wiggins Elementary School and the rationale for closing what was at the time the fifth school in the district. Additionally he shared his recollections of Superintendent Ada S. Nelson, who retired in 1956 after serving 23 years as the Los Nietos School District’s first superintendent.

Former Superintendent Lawson and his wife were traveling to also meet former Los Nietos employees Superintendent Herlinda Leong, and Raymond “Bud” Chapman who have remained life-long friends after retiring from the Los Nietos School District. Mrs. Lawson surprised her husband by purchasing an alumni paver at the front of the District Office entrance that denoted his five years of service as Los Nietos School District Superintendent.

Pictured at right are pictures of Mr. Lawson in 1973 when he worked at the District Office, and a picture of him in 1958 when he was an 8th grade teacher at the Los Nietos School.
