Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees Recognize the Outstanding Accomplishments made by the Aeolian Student Council on 1/19/12

At the January 19, 2012 Los Nietos School Board Meeting, Aeolian School’s Student Council was recognized for their outstanding contributions during the 2011 “Feed the Family Program”. Principal Amber Lee-Ruiz eloquently spoke about how her school’s student council, under the direction of advisors Mrs. Ramirez and Mrs. Garcia, was able to raise $1,500.00 by creating a program called “Aeolian’s Angels”.

By hosting fundraising events at their school, the student council during the first trimester was able to raise $1,500.00, which they used to donate to some Aeolian families in need during the holiday season. Additionally, on December 17, 2011, Aeolian Student Council members volunteered alongside District staff to help distribute 150 bags of food to Los Nietos families during the District and South East Los Angeles County Educational Foundation’s (SELAC) annual “Feed the Families Program”. Each year SELAC purchases food (chicken, rice, produce, etc.) to add to the canned foods that are collected during the Los Nietos School District’s annual canned food drive. All items are then sorted and distributed to families in need across the district.

The Los Nietos School Board presented the students and teacher advisors certificates of appreciation for their hard work and for demonstrating that you are never too young to make a difference in the community where you live. The Los Nietos School Board would like to congratulate Mrs. Ruiz, Mrs. Ramirez, Mrs. Garcia, and the Aeolian Student Council for demonstrating outstanding civic responsibility in the Los Nietos School District Community. The Board additionally thanked the parents in the audience for being such outstanding role models to their children and supporting their noteworthy efforts.
