Los Nietos School District Mourns the Passing of LNTA Co-President, Alvina Shonborn on January 10, 2012

The Los Nietos School District lost a member of its family on January 10, 2012, when LNTA Co-President, Alvina Shonborn, lost her yearlong battle with cancer. Mrs. Shonborn had a remarkable 33-year career as an educator in the Los Nietos School District and her loss has been felt throughout the district.

Mrs. Shonborn spent the majority of her career teaching kindergarten but over the last several years had taught special education students as a resource specialist. In 2000, Mrs. Shonborn was recognized for her teaching excellence when her peers named her the 2000-2001 Los Nietos Teacher of the Year. Throughout her career she worked to help support students and teachers. In addition to being an outstanding educator she served multiple years as Los Nietos Teacher Association President, LNTA Negotiator, BTSA Support Provider, and PAR Consulting Teacher.

On November 10, 2011, the Los Nietos School District in conjunction with City of Hope sponsored a Blood Drive in her name. Administrators, teachers, classified employees, and parents came throughout the day to show their support for this remarkable individual.

Through her extensive dedication to the students and staff at the Los Nietos School District, her presence and memory will not be forgotten. The Los Nietos School District would like to extend its sincerest sympathy to Mrs. Shonborn’s husband, Bob, and daughter, Andrea.
