This year the Los Nietos School District created a community partnership with Whittier Presbyterian Hospital to provide comprehensive health education to the students and parents in the Los Nietos community. This first year of the partnership has been primarily implemented at Rancho Santa Gertrudes School and the Los Nietos Middle School. However, it is hoped that in the future the program/partnership can grow to accommodate all four schools in the Los Nietos School District.
On November 18, 2011, Dr. Eric Neilson came to speak with 6th grade students and Rancho Santa Gertrudes parents on the importance of exercise. Dr. Neilson presented to the students and parents on how exercise can play an important role in maintaining overall health. To demonstrate the importance of exercise to the students, Dr. Neilson participated during P.E. class with the students. He later met with 20 parents to show a health/exercise presentation and answer any health related questions the parents asked. The Los Nietos School District is always looking to form community partnerships to better serve our parents and students. The District feels fortunate to count Whittier Presbyterian Hospital as a strong community partner.
