Rancho School Hosts a Spectacular Family Literacy Night on 11/17/11

On November 17, 2011, Rancho Santa Gertrudes School hosted a “Family Literacy Night” for the Rancho Santa Gertrudes Community. Principal Octavio Perez invited parents and students to listen to students who had been selected to read stories that they had written. After the student authors had finished with their stories, Rancho teachers hosted literacy centers to teach parents activities they can do at home with their children to increase reading skills.

Rancho’s Parent Teacher Club sold refreshments and hosted a bookfaire fundraiser. The night was highlighted by book donations made by DD’s discount bookstore and the Molina Foundation. Rancho was given a book donation of 1,500 books for the school, and all students who attended the Family Literacy Night received a free book. The over 150 parents and students in attendance were extremely pleased with the hard work of the Rancho principal and staff in preparing such a wonderful literacy experience.
