Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital Provides HIV/AIDS Education to Los Nietos Middle School Students-11/4/11

On November 4, 2011, the Los Nietos Middle School’s 7th and 8th grade students received HIV/AIDS prevention/instruction from Dr. Houlahan from Presbyterian Hospital. California state law requires that HIV/AIDS prevention education be taught in middle school and in high school. Parents were informed of the assembly and were allowed to examine the instructional materials prior to the assembly. Parents also had the option, per state law, to have their child not participate in the assembly. The goal of a comprehensive health education program is to help students learn the facts and to make good decisions now, and later in life.

The Los Nietos School District has entered into a community partnership with Presbyterian Hospital, and Dr. Houlahan has been working both at Rancho Santa Gertrudes School and the Los Nietos Middle School. Dr. Houlahan ’s presentation was well received by the students and the objective of providing comprehensive information to the students on HIV/AIDS prevention was achieved.
