2011 Welcome Back Back Breakfast/Final Sesquicentennial Event Pictures Now Available-9/2/11

On August 29, 2011, the Los Nietos School District concluded the yearlong celebration of their Sesquicentennial Celebration. To Honor the District's longevity and academic achievements, several dignitaries attended and spoke to a packed Ballroom of Los Nietos Employees and invited guests at the Radisson Hotel in Whittier, California.

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez, California State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe were featured speakers as well as Jake Brown, CEO of TransLux, and Tom Martinez, from IBEW/NECA who spoke on sustainable energy.

Superintendent Vasquez gave awards of appreciation to Congresswoman Sanchez, Superintendent Torlakson, and Supervisor Knabe for attending and honoring the Los Nietos School District. 2011 Teacher of the Year, Denise Duran, gave an acceptance speech that moved the audience deeply. In recognition of being named 2011 Teacher of the Year, Ms. Duran was given awards by the district and by Supervisor Knabe.

Additional awards of appreciation were given to the following individuals: former Los Nietos Superintendent (current Mountain View Elementary Superintendent) Lillian Maldonado French, for her efforts to get the Measure M Bond measure passed; Carlos Rodriguez and Andy Morales for their help in making Los Nietos School alumni aware of the 150th celebration on May 21, 2011; and John and Amy Boladian for their help in creating and publishing Los Nietos 150th anniversary information to the Los Nietos Community.

Special guests Bud Chapman (40 year Los Nietos retired employee/15 as the Los Nietos School Principal) and Carolyn Schoff (great granddaughter of one of the first Los Nietos teachers from the 1800’s presented the annual years of service pins to the employees. A special award was given to Max Rodriguez who at 90 years of age was the oldest living alumnus of the Los Nietos School in attendance.

Superintendent Vasquez acknowledged and thanked the Los Nietos schools and awarded their principals and staffs awards of appreciation on behalf of a very grateful Los Nietos School Board.

Lastly, awards were presented to the Rancho Santa Gertrudes Teachers for achieving a 2011 API score of 800.
