Los Nietos Board of Trustees Congratulate the Rancho Santa Gertrudes 2011 Battle of the Books Champions on June 8, 2011

At the Los Nietos School Board Meeting held on June 8, 2011, the Los Nietos School Board met to discuss the current State budget and the implications for the District during the 2011-2012 school year. Prior to the Study Session CSEA President, Danny Encinas, made a donation (books for Rancho’s school library) on behalf of the Los Nietos CSEA Chapter.

Additionally, Trustees acknowledged and honored the two teams (Booknights and Bookworms) from Rancho Santa Gertrudes School that participated in the annual “Battle of the Books” competition against teams from the Little Lake School District. The Bookworms after a tough night of competing on May 20, 2011, won the 2011 “Battle of the Books” championship. Mr. Jerry Edwards from the Santa Fe Springs Library congratulated the Rancho students and presented Principal, Octavio Perez, the 2011 trophy.

Mr. Perez acknowledged the hard work of the students, parents, and staff advisors (Mrs. Emily Coutant and Mrs. Monica Goco) and then awarded each student a personalized medal commemorating their accomplishment. Mr. Perez also awarded medals of support to the Board of Trustees and to District administrators. The Los Nietos School Board thanked the students, parents, and staff for their dedication and hard work in winning the competition. To show their appreciation, the Board of Trustees awarded Rancho Santa Gertrudes School a plaque to commemorate their 2011 “Battle of the Books” championship.

After the presentation a short recess was called so the Board could congratulate personally the students, parents, and staff in attendance.
