Los Nietos Administrators Congratulate Principal Amber Lee Ruiz and Aeolian Parent Gregoria Poblano at the Los Angeles County Bilingual Directors Association Award Ceremony on 4/9/11

On April 9, 2011, the Los Angeles County Bilingual Directors’ Association honored outstanding administrators and parents from Los Angeles County School Districts who exemplify the best in promoting the ideals of bilingual education. The Los Nietos School District administration was proud to congratulate Aeolian Principal Amber Lee-Ruiz, and Aeolian parent Gregoria Poblano at the dinner and award ceremony.

Principal Lee-Ruiz has been principal of Aeolian School for the past four years. During this time, she has worked strategically with her staff to raise the school’s API by 165 points in three years to exit Program Improvement in two years. She credits Aeolian’s meteoric success to the hard work of her teachers, staff, and parent community. Principal Lee-Ruiz is quoted as saying, “it is my responsibility and my teachers responsibility to meet the students where they are, and then do everything in our power, and then some, to help them succeed”.

Gregoria Poblano is very involved with the school community we ELAC and PTC. She has been instrumental in making sure that students and parents value being bilingual within the school community. She is involved in the award-winning garden club and family workdays to beautify her school and grounds. Gregoria volunteers almost every day in her children’s classes to assist teachers and support students that need extra help. She also acts as a translator for many of the Spanish-speaking parents so that they can participate fully in their child’s education.

Additionally, Assembly Member Tony Mendoza received special recognition for his many years as a community leader and public servant. Assembly Member Mendoza serves as the vice chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, and has provided leadership to improve the healthcare and educational needs for overlooked and underserved communities while in the State Assembly. Superintendent Vasquez and Assistant Superintendent McNeil congratulated Assembly Member Mendoza and his wife for his award.
