Aeolian School Hosts Spectacular Literacy Day to Conclude Los Nietos School District's Literacy Week on 3/11/11

Aeolian School concluded Los Nietos School District’s weeklong celebration of reading by hosting a spectacular “Literacy Day” on March 11, 2011. With close to 100 “Guest Readers” from the community attending the event, Aeolian School had one of their best-attended literacy events in years.

The day started with the traditional reading of the “Cat in the Hat” by Mrs. Martinez, and special appearances by the Thing 1 and Thing 2 and an exceedingly large cat. At the conclusion of the reading assembly Mrs. Ruiz, Aeolian’s principal, conducted a raffle for those students who attended the very popular California Standards Test (CST) Parent Night. The lucky students were awarded a $10.00 gift certificate to use at the school’s book fair.

Aeolian School welcomed guest readers from the Los Nietos District Office, Downey High School, employees of Southern California Edison, officers from Pico Sheriff Station, and Aeolian parents and grandparents. Special Guest Readers included Superintendent Vasquez, Downey High School Principal, Tom Houts, Jill Prado and her Therapy Dog “Astro”, Rebecca Leopold from Bright Health Physicians, Los Nietos Middle School Principal, Jacqueline Cardenas, Sergeant Tony Romo from Pico Sheriff station, and deputy district attorney Mario Trujillo.

Aeolian School’s principal, staff, and parents are to be commended for once again providing such an outstanding event for the Aeolian School community.
