On March 9, 2023, the Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees swore in its first-ever student board member since its opening in 1861. Hannah Perez, an eighth-grade student at Los Nietos Middle School S.T.E.A.M. Academy and Student Body President, was chosen to represent Los Nietos School District students as a student board member.

“This is a historic day for our District,” said Superintendent Dr. Ramiro Rubalcaba. “It is our mission to give students a voice and have them be part of the decision-making process as we implement new programs and make changes that will positively impact their education.”

Student Board Member Hannah Perez will serve in an advisory capacity and have the right to attend meetings and receive all open session materials, be appointed to subcommittees, be briefed by staff, and be invited to attend other functions of the board.

“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve on this board,” said Hannah Perez. “I’d like to thank my teachers and parents for supporting me through my academic journey. They are a major part of why I am standing here today. I look forward to working with the Los Nietos Board of Trustees and bringing great things to my fellow students.”

In addition to the ASB, Hannah is part of the Los Nietos Middle School Band and participates in the district’s newly founded E-Sports Program. She is a proud member of the Los Nietos community and formerly attended Rancho Santa Gertrudes Elementary School in Santa Fe Springs.
