Whittier Daily News Article on the Los Nietos School District Holiday Food Drive on 12/18/10

As reported by the Whittier Daily news on December 18, 2010, the Los Nietos School District and the South East Los Angeles County (SELAC) Education Foundation successfully completed another year of the "Feed the Families" program. The downpour of rain did not deter over 100 deserving families from coming to the Los Nietos School District office to receive a bag of donated items, including canned groceries, produce, and a canned ham or food gift card. Although the event was on December 18, the process of collecting, organizing, and bagging the food started two days earlier. District office staff began organizing the food on December 16, and school site staff (teachers, assistants, administrators, staff family members) bagged the canned food in preparation for the December 18 distribution.

The Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees, district staff and their families, and Aeolian Student Council members worked collectively to distribute canned food, produce, and bread products to the identified families in the district. At the end of the 3-hour food distribution, the remainder of the food was delivered to a local church, women's shelter, and men's shelter. Everyone involved agreed that there was no better way to begin their vacation then by volunteering their time to bring the spirit of the season to some deserving families in the Los Nietos School District.
