Los Nietos School District Pancake Fundraiser benefitting the “Feed the Families” program raises $2,400.00 on November 14, 2015

On November 14, 2015 the Los Nietos School District hosted a pancake fundraiser benefiting the “Feed the Families” program that provides a free food basket and toys for Los Nietos School District families in need during the winter holidays. The “Feed the Families’ program has been in existence for about ten years and helps support about 150 identified Los Nietos School District families that are in particular need during the winter break.

The theme of the event was, “Be a Superhero in the Los Nietos Community”, as staff and guests were invited to dress up as their favorite superhero. Los Nietos School District employees volunteered their time to staff the event that not only included a wonderful breakfast (pancakes, eggs, sausage, tater tots, and choice of milk, juice, or coffee) but also activity booths sponsored by the Los Nietos Middle School ASB, the Healthy Los Nietos Promotora de Salud in Action, and the Los Angeles County Library. The LA County Library gave out free books to the students and also invited the students to listen to story telling.

In addition to the activity booths (nail painting, face painting, superhero press-on tattoos, super hero costume art, basketball throw, parachute toss, and pictures in the “Batmobile”), a superhero costume contest was also held for students in grades TK-3, 4-6, and 7th-8th. Prizes were given to students with the most original costume. The Los Nietos School District would like to thank the members of the Pico Sheriff’s station who came to participate in the event and also meet with Los Nietos residents to answer their questions.

The final event of the day was the drawings of the donated raffle prizes. The Los Nietos School District would like to thank the members of the Los Nietos community that donated raffle prizes to the event: United Waste Systems, Los Nietos Teachers Association, Aeolian PTC, Nelson PTC, Rancho PTC, and the Los Nietos Middle School PTC. Additionally, members of the public and staff provided cash donations but wished to have their identity remain anonymous.

All totaled, the pancake breakfast fundraiser was able to raise $2,400.00, 100% of which will be used to supplement the “Feed the Families” program with additional food and toys. The Los Nietos School District would like to thank all of the staff, residents, and family members who attended and volunteered their time to help make the 2015 Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser a huge success!
