Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees Welcome Staff Back to School on August 11, 2015

On August 11, 2015 Superintendent Vasquez and the Los Nietos Board of Trustees welcomed the Los Nietos staff back and wished them a stellar year at the District’s annual “Welcome Back Breakfast.” The Board of Trustees have a tradition of inviting all staff to a meeting prior to the start of the new school year where they can publicly thank them for their collective efforts to insure all students receive a quality education.

Each table had an iPad cake centerpiece that was made by Assistant to the Superintendent, Flor Castillo, and instructional assistant, Roxanne Castillo. The iPad cakes followed the theme of increased technology in the hands of the students and teachers this year. Thanks to the Los Nietos community supporting Bond Measure N last November by 77%, all classrooms in the district received a technology upgrade this summer that will allow for wireless instruction through the use of iPads and laptops.

Board President, Nick Aquino, thanked the employees for their commitment to the children in Los Nietos and wished them a successful school year.

Superintendent Vasquez introduced the 2015-2016 Teacher of the Year, Carlee Anne Moyer, who spoke to the staff in attendance and provided an inspiring message to be a “Champion” in the lives of students and always try to push and cheer them to academic excellence. Her moving speech concluded with a standing ovation, and hugs from her parents and grandmother.

As is customary at the “Welcome Back Event,” the Trustees presented years of service pins to the employees in attendance.

Superintendent Vasquez spoke of the importance of refining the curriculum guides this year and continuing to work collaboratively in grade level teams sharing the best instructional strategies to effectively teach the “New California State Standards” to the Los Nietos students. Of Critical importance this year will be the utilization of the S.T.O.I.C. model from the Safe and Civil Schools Program that the District will be implementing this year. At the conclusion of the event Superintendent Vasquez thanked the staff for their hard work and for choosing to work in Los Nietos. Board President Aquino recognized District administration for their hard work as well, and thanked them for effectively supporting staff and enabling them to do their best work in the Los Nietos School District.
