Los Nietos School District Holds Wellness Committee Meeting on March 19, 2015

On March 19th, Superintendent Vasquez convened a meeting of district, city, and county stakeholders to discuss the Los Nietos School District’s implementation and evaluation of the Student Wellness Policy. The District’s principals, Director of Nutrition Services (Kurt Chou), assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of Business (Monica Estrada), representatives of PIH Health, AltaMed, Think Together, the City of Santa Fe Springs, and the Promatoras de Salud in Action (parent health advocates) were in attendance to hear about how all of the Healthy Los Nietos activities fit under the district’s wellness policy.

Superintendent Vasquez led the discussion on how all of the groups that are working within the district will be meeting to coordinate goals as part of the District’s Wellness Policy. The goals will then be evaluated on a yearly basis with the results being presented to the Los Nietos School Board at yearly meetings. Director Chou shared information regarding the district’s recent nutrition services audit, and shared with the committee the state and federal guidelines that the cafeteria needs to adhere to when serving meals to the students.

After Director Chou’s presentation, Superintendent Vasquez reviewed Board Policy-5030 and each stakeholder group had the opportunity to make comments on how their work supports the goals of the District’s Wellness Policy.

At the conclusion of the meeting Superintendent Vasquez thanked the participants in attendance and agreed to schedule an upcoming Study Session with the Los Nietos School Board to discuss the Wellness Policy and discuss ways in which the effectiveness of the program can be monitored and enhanced.
