The Los Nietos School District's Community Newsletter Released on March 11, 2015

Dear Los Nietos Community,

For the second straight year our 3rd-8th grade students will be taking part in the new State computerized Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) assessments beginning March 10th.

For many of our instructional employees, preparation for the Common Core State Standards SBAC assessments began a week prior to school beginning on August 15th. Teachers across the district worked collaboratively in grade level teams to begin the yearlong process of creating new K-8 curriculum guides that focus on delivering the Common Core State Standards to Los Nietos students. The creation of the common core curriculum guides has been the top priority this year, and all teachers in the district have worked tirelessly to achieve that goal. The curriculum that teachers create this year will be used for the next several years to deliver quality instruction that focuses on the 4 C’s of Common Core (Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity). The Los Nietos School District’s 200 employees are all 100% dedicated to the academic success of our students.
While our instructional staff has been working to implement the Common Core curriculum, the Los Nietos School District has been working simultaneously on several key projects that will build and sustain learning opportunities for our students, staff, and community for many years to come. As you read the articles in this newsletter, I hope you feel the same sense of pride that the Board or Trustees and I share as we provide new and challenging learning opportunities for all of our students in the Los Nietos School District.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Vasquez, Superintendent
& Los Nietos Board of Trustees
