Ada S. Nelson School Hosts a "Tiger Walk" on October 4, 2014

On October 4, 2014, Ada S. Nelson welcomed the “Promotora de Salud in Action” parents to their Friday Awards Assembly. After the assembly, the Promotra parents invited students and parents to join them in a “Nelson Tiger Walk” and a health education class after the walk. The Promotora parents are volunteers who received health education training last year as part of the “Healthy Los Nietos” partnership with PIH Health. Now certificated as parent health advocates, the Promotora parents visit each of the school sites once per month enlisting parent volunteers to join them as they are now training other parents to be health advocates in the Los Nietos School District Community.

The “Nelson Tiger Walk” was so successful that the Los Nietos School District wrote a Kaiser Permanente “School Wellness” grant this year on behalf of the Promotroa parents so they can offer incentives, health education, and healthy snacks to students and parents once per month at Nelson this year. The Los Nietos School District would like to thank the very active and dedicated parents of “Promotora de Salud in Action!”
