Eight Los Nietos Parents Receive Vision and Compromiso Wellness Certification Training on April 7, 2014

On April 7, 2014, two parents from each Los Nietos schools completed and received certification in the Vision and Compromiso Training provided by PIH Health. The training is an advanced training designed to provide parents the tools necessary to actively advocate for student health and wellness within a school district. The eight parents will be serving on the Los Nietos School District’ s Wellness Committee as well as networking with parents from other cities and school districts.

This past year PIH Health provided free health education training called “Parents In Action” as part of the collaborative “Healthy Los Nietos” project. Ricardo Lopez and Brigida Davila of PIH Health provided the parent education training. Of the fifteen Los Nietos parents who graduated the program, eight were invited to attend the advanced “Vision and Compromiso Training”.

On April 7th the eight parents were invited to attend graduation ceremonies with parent graduates from the “Activate Whittier” health collaborative. This was one of the first opportunities that parents from Activate Whittier and Healthy Los Nietos were able to work collaboratively together and learn from one another.

Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Jacqueline Cardenas, and Aeolian Principal, Becky Speh, attended the graduation ceremony and congratulated the parents for volunteering their time to benefit health education in the Los Nietos School District.
