Los Nietos School District celebrates “Read Across America” on March 2nd-3rd, 2017

All three Los Nietos elementary schools celebrated “Read Across America” on March 2-3rd with tremendous community support. Rancho started the week on March 2nd by hosting members of the Santa Fe Springs City Council, Whittier Police Department, Los Nietos School Board Members, and Santa Fe Springs Librarians. Students and parents were invited to eat green eggs and ham in the cafeteria before school started, and then guest readers visited classrooms reading their favorite Dr. Seuss books to students.

On March 3rd Aeolian and Nelson Schools held their “Read Across America” festivities. Aeolian welcomed Assemblyman Ian Calderon, Los Nietos School Board members, parents, and District employees to their campus as they read to students throughout the day. Parents and students also were invited to a picnic lunch held in Aeolian’s quad.

Nelson’s theme was "Oh the places you will go”, from the Dr. Seuss book.  Teachers selected different countries or places in other countries to represent.  They decorated their door and some of them, their classroom.  They were responsible for sharing a few facts about their location.  Additionally, some Nelson teachers had students dress like the country, others brought food, music, etc. to highlight the country they were representing.  Students had passports and teachers stamped the student passports when they came for a visit (presentation during the morning, and walkthrough after lunch).

The Los Nietos School District would like to express their gratitude to the parents, staff, and community members that helped make the 2017 “Read Across America” festivities a grand success!
