Ada S. Nelson School Participates in "International Walk to School Day" on October 7, 2015

On October 7, 2015 Ada S. Nelson parents, staff, and students participated in the “International Walk to School Day”. International Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. It began in 1997 as a one-day event. Over time, this event has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school and a celebration – with record-breaking participation – each October. Today, thousands of schools across America – from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico participated in the event.

Pico Sheriff Station officers played a large part in the event as they escorted parents, students, and staff safely to school with a police car escort. Members of the Ada S. Nelson PTC as well as the Promotoras de Salud in Action helped plan the event that helped highlight the importance of exercising and strengthening ties between parents and students by walking to school together. Also in attendance were representatives of the Los Angles County Public Health Department and AltaMed.

After the processional to Ada S. Nelson School, Principal Duncan addressed the parents, staff, and students, and thanked them for participating and most importantly thanking the Pico Sheriffs in attendance for volunteering their time to make the Nelson Tigers feel safe and secure on “Walking to School Day”.
