On July 14, 2015 the Los Nietos School District Board of Trustees attended a joint School Board Meeting at Pioneer High School with the Whittier Union High School District’s Board of Trustees to discuss upcoming Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (S.T.E.M) partnerships between the two school districts. Prior to the Board meeting, the Los Nietos Trustees and administrative staff were taken on a tour of the new Dick Torres Field that was recently completed as part of the Whittier Union High School’s Bond program.

After the tour of Pioneer High School’s athletic field, the joint meeting was held to discuss S.T.E.M. initiatives that are going to be held this year in both districts. The Los Nietos Board of Trustees listened intently as principal, Shannon Brann-Zelaya, discussed the new S.T.E.M. electives that will be held this year at the Los Nietos Middle School. Superintendent Vasquez as well as Superintendent Thorstenson expressed gratitude to their respective staffs for putting together the joint meeting and sharing common initiatives. Prior to ending the meeting the Trustees of both districts expressed their commitment to continue working together to insure that the Los Nietos students transition seamlessly into the Whittier Union High School District.
