Los Nietos Board of Trustees Recognize the Accomplishments of the Los Nietos Middle School SRLA Team and the Rancho Santa Gertrudes Gold Medal Science Olympiad Team on April 23, 2015

At the Los Nietos School Board meeting held on April 23rd, 2015 the Los Nietos Trustees honored the accomplishments of the Los NIetos Middle School SRLA Team and the Rancho Santa Gertrudes School Gold Medal Science Olympiad Team.

Los Nietos Middle School Principal, Shanonn Brann Zelaya, introduced the adult coaches, students, and parents that helped make the 2015 Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA) Team such a huge success this year. Principal Zelaya singled out the dedication of SRLA Coaches, Linda Cojohn and William Chavez, for the decades worth of commitment to the SRLA students at the Los Nietos Middle School. After 10 years of being the primary coaches for the SRLA program, both Mrs. Cojohn and Mr. Chavez will be stepping down this year. Superintendent Vasquez thanked both coaches for the awesome dedication to the SRLA program as well as applauded the efforts of the adult mentors, students, and parents for achieving such a huge accomplishment of completing the Los Angeles marathon. All SRLA students received certificates of recognition and Coaches Cojohn and Chavez received trophies for their many years of service.

Additionally, the Rancho Santa Gertrudes School gold medal winning Science Olympiad team was recognized for achieving the school’s first gold medal after competing in the competition for the past several years. Rancho Principal, Octavio Perez, introduced the two teacher coaches, Joe Nevarez and Armida Morris, and thanked them for their dedication, passion, and hard work in helping mold the 2014-2015 Rancho team to gold medal winners this year. Superintendent Vasquez and the Board of Trustees thanked and congratulated Mr. Nevarez, Mrs. Morris, Mr. Perez, the gold medal team, and their parents for achieving the school’s first gold medal. Students were presented with certificates of recognition for their achievement and then were invited to take pictures with the school board.

Congratulations again are given to the Los Nietos Middle School SRLA Team and the Rancho Santa Gertrudes gold medal winning Science Olympiad Team as well as thanks to the adult coaches and parents for their support of the students.
