Los Nietos Middle School MESA and Yearbook Students Host District-Wide Easter Egg Hunt on April 10, 2014

On April 10, 2014, the Los Nietos Middle School invited the K-3 students from Aeolian, Ada S. Nelson, and Rancho Santa Gertrudes Schools to participate in the yearly Easter Egg Hunt. The event was coordinated and sponsored by the Los Nietos Middle School students involved in the Mathematics Engineering Science Academy (MESA) club and the Yearbook Club. Each year students who are involved in the MESA club participate in the preliminary MESA competition before advancing to the regional competition. This year thirty-five Los Nietos MESA Students participated at Chapman College on February 25, 2014 in the preliminary competition, with six MESA students advancing to the regional competition held at Chapman College on March 29, 2014.

The Los Nietos Middle School Yearbook Club this year had a new 30-laptop cart to use throughout the year. The yearbook students produced the 2013-2014 yearbook for the first time completely online. In addition, the yearbook club is producing a retrospective of the 2014-2015 school year on a DVD that will be available to all Los Nietos Middle School Students. Both the MESA and the Yearbook Club have, as part of their participation eligibility, the requirement of doing a community service project. Working collaboratively together alongside the dedicated Los Nietos Middle School staff advisors and Principal, Shannon Brann-Zelaya, the staff and students sponsored the Easter egg hunt for the Los Nietos School District children.

Over 400 parents and students attended the event, as children were able to participate in games, raffle drawings, as well as free egg hunting. Through donations made by Samaritan Ambulance Company of Orange County, raffle prizes included bicycles and sports equipment. During the event there were smiles aplenty from both youngsters and adults alike. The Easter egg hunt is just one of the many ways the Los Nietos Middle School staff and students demonstrate its commitment to creating a positive and caring learning environment with all Los Nietos School District students.
