Los Nietos Staff Actively Participates in Differentiated Professional Development Day on September 23, 2016

On September 23, 2016 Los Nietos School District employees met for an intensive day of professional development designed to help staff effectively support the Los Nietos students in and out of the classroom. September 23rd’s professional development day was the first of four pupil-free days that were placed into the 2016-2017 school calendar in order to provide additional support to staff as they implement new language arts and math curriculums this year. The other pupil free professional development days scheduled this year will be held on October 17th, January 9th, and April 17th.

The primary focus of the District’s first professional development day was mathematics, as the district’s teachers met in differentiated groups (K-3, 4-5, and 6-8) designed to allow the presenters to more efficiently and intimately answer grade level questions about the district’s new math adoption. Although mathematics was the primary focus, professional development was designed to meet the individual needs of the district’s staff. Additional opportunities were provided for the English Language Arts teachers, PE Teachers, Transitional Kindergarten teachers, school psychologists, instructional assistants, and cafeteria workers.

Superintendent Vasquez and the Los Nietos School Board of Trustees would like to thank all staff who participated in the professional development day and the Los Nietos parents for understanding the importance of having pupil free days so staff can learn practices and strategies that will effectively support their children in the Los Nietos School District.
